Popovers in b14 nightly

I am trying to use a popover in an app running the b14 nightlies (908 as of now).
I have read the post here $scope inside a popover in unreachable!

My problem is that I don’t get the popup to show. when I call the .show() method the page display fades down but the popover does not appear.

If I create the popover without specifying scope in .fromTemplateUrl() I get the popover to display, but I need my scope!!

The post above has a Codepen at http://codepen.io/anon/pen/exfqb?editors=101. To see the problem, change the code in this pen from referencing 1.0.0-beta.12 to nightly, then this Codepen has the same problem (the popover does not appear)

Bug or my confusion???

To answer myself, it seems to be a bug. It works in nightlies up to 889 but not in 908.

Also experiencing this issue. If I change the popover opacity from 0 to 1, it works. However, it is not positioned near the button that triggered it.
