Push notification not getting received when app is dormant, Android

I followed an example Capacitor - build cross platform apps with the web, tested on Samsung S7 edge, Android OS

Works only if app is in foreground, otherwise does not display any notification which could be tapped on or any indicator that something has been received.

What could be the problem?
