Ionic package android fails

Hi all

I wanted to build a new apk and suddely I get the following error when trying to use ionic package.

output:
ANDROID_HOME=/opt/android-sdk
JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-oracle
Error: Could not find gradle wrapper within Android SDK. Might need to update your Android SDK.
Looked here: /opt/android-sdk/tools/templates/gradle/wrapper

Am I doing something wrong?

I recently updated to the latest cli, ionic-angular

global packages:

    @ionic/cli-utils : 1.4.0
    Cordova CLI      : 6.5.0
    Ionic CLI        : 3.4.0

local packages:

    @ionic/app-scripts              : 1.3.7
    @ionic/cli-plugin-cordova       : 1.4.0
    @ionic/cli-plugin-ionic-angular : 1.3.1
    Cordova Platforms               : android 6.1.2 browser 4.1.0
    Ionic Framework                 : ionic-angular 3.5.0
