Unable to turn on and off Sidemenu functionality

I want to be able to disable the side menu at first then enable it when someone selects a post on my site: enter link description here

I have tried doing it pragmatically I have tried doing it in the html each multiple ways and cant seem to get it to work. Any thoughts?

I am not using Firefox if that helps. Chrome primarily both on my laptop and on my Samsung Galaxy. Also tested in IE(but I don’t expect much to work in there :slight_smile: )
