Ionic2 RC0 app.core.scss not importing on phone

I have a /src/app/app.core.scss file for my global styles and when I do ionic serve it works fine but when I deploy to my phone none of hte styles are included. Any thoughts?

Also, when I put global styles in the theme/global.scss file none of the styles are in included in web or phone view.
