Ion-Split-Pane: How to collapse side-menu smoothly as viewport decreases

Currently it just snaps out of view when the viewport decreases:

But instead of just snapping out of view, I’d like for it to have the same transition out of view as type="reveal:

Anyone with an existing solution for this? Thanks in advance!
