How to change iOS StatusBar font color?

Basically I want to change the font color to white for the Carrier/Time/Battery Percentage status bar in iOS.

My issue is similar to the one described in Stack Overflow question below. However, I tried to implement the same changes in my app and I’m not getting it to work. Any ideas?
