Did you try $ionicHistory.viewHistory() instead of $scope.$viewHistory? Dont forget to inject $ionicHistory

Nice! So $ionicHistory.backView only sets the view in the history and you need $ionicHistory.goBack() to actually navigate to it. That worked, thanks!
