Dynaminc Ionic slides in modal - must be refreshed to work

I am running a series of slides with ng-repeat inside of a modal window. When the modal first loads the slide box width is set to zero width and so the display is totally wonky. I was able to reproduce in codepen here:

Anyone have ideas on how to overcome this?

The slide-box has been over due for some work. Would you mind posting an issue on github about this and link to the codepen?
