Problems with Getting Started

#1

Trying to follow your instructions on installing the Ionic framework onto a Digital ocean VPS running Ubuntu 14.04 with a LAMP stack. I can’t even get past Step 2! When I type in “ionic start myApp sidemenu”, I get the following error message.

/usr/bin/env: node: No such file or directory

Can you point me in the right direction here please?

#2

the node bin isn’t in your $PATH.

When running apt-get nodejs it installs a bin named with “nodejs”. i think there is a package to “solve” this problem called legacy-nodejs or ndoejs-legacy (not with a linux machine right now).

After installing this package check if you can run node -v.

Then try to run ionic

You need to symlink the nodejs executable to node

sudo ln -s “$(which nodejs)” /usr/local/bin/node
The reason for this is that when you do “apt-get install node”, it installs an unrelated package, so they had to choose a different name so it wouldn’t conflict

The above worked for me instantly (using ubuntu 16.04) on executing the command in the terminal.
