When I execute this command (ionic cordova resources) it states that it requires me to login to my ionic account using my email and password, why is this necessary?

I assume because it uses a web service offered by Ionic to scale and compress the images.
This never used to be required. I saw it once when I first installed the beta v3 CLI, hoped that it was a temporary glitch, and am going to get seriously bent if it’s a new requirement. A truly free framework means no making people register for accounts to access core functionality.
Then someone should write an issue for Ionic-cli.
